About Reiki Consciousness

Reiki is a form of alternative medicine founded in Japan in the late 1800's by Mikao Usui. Reiki is the principle of channeling this universal life energy and passing it on to the client, relieving any physical pain or illness. It isn't anchored in religion, simply the idea that every living thing has energy flowing through it and that a stagnation in this flow of energy can have repercussions on the body and vice-versa. What this means is that by channeling this essential life energy and transferring it to the client we can easily bring back its original flow, and promote healing. Think of it as a river flowing through your body and gently moving away any blockage. 

Now, since the 1800's, many different approaches to Reiki have surfaced; the one that I studied is Reiki Consciousness, taught by Olivier Honsperger in Geneva, Switzerland. What inspired me by his approach is already in the name- Consciousness. In this approach we take into consideration the client in its entirety, meaning that we do not focus solely on physical pain and its symptoms, but on the mind, body and soul instead. More often than not, physical pain is a result from stress, anger, and/or a painful past, so if a client is experiencing intense back pain (that is really caused by past emotional trauma) and I were to focus my attention on the muscles, surely the pain would go away for a little while but would keep coming back since the emotional wound would still be present.

Reiki Consciousness allows me to be in a deep state in meditation, understanding that the Reiki Energy will flow exactly where the body needs it to, without me having to ask any questions at the beginning of the session, or look for a diagnosis. 

Reiki is known to have many benefits, some of them being:

  • Helping to regulate blood pressure

  • Easing pains and aches of all types

  • Clearing the body of any toxins

  • Significantly improving sleep

  • Bringing emotional support and improving mental health

  • Gently soothing and healing emotional wounds
